Nearly 90% of the world’s wild flowering plant species depend\, entirely\, or at least in part\, on animal pollination\, along with more than 75% of the world’s food crops and 35% of global agricultural land. Not only do pollinators contribute directly to food security\, but they are key to conserving biodiversity.\nTo raise awareness of the importance of pollinators\, the threats they face and their contribution to sustainable development\, the UN designated 20 May as World Bee Day.

Every day\, tens of thousands of people in various Asian\, African and South American countries men\, women and even children work themselves to the bone in nearly unbearable conditions for pennies so we can continue to enjoy those things.\nHowever\, there are many people in this world who feel that everyone deserves decent wages and working conditions\, regardless of where they live\, and these people have created Fair Trade Day. Fair Trade Day is a global event that aims to draw attention to the objectives and achievements of the Fair Trade movement.\nThe Fair Trade movement campaigns to improve the lives of workers and small producers\, especially those within developing economies\, by asserting their rights and raising their visibility within international trade. The movement invites consumers to participate in its campaign by choosing Fair Trade alternatives to existing products.

DESCRIPTION:Join us to meet and question Herts County Council candidates about their stance on environmental issues in the run up to May 2021 elections. \nAbout this Event \nFriends of the Earth groups across the Hertfordshire are putting on this Environmental Hustings so you can question candidates from the Conservative\, Green\, Labour and Liberal Democrat parties (two candidates representing each party)\, with a focus on tackling the climate crisis.\nThis May\, we all have an opportunity to ensure hundreds of councils\, no matter their political party\, take climate breakdown seriously and commit to making our towns and cities greener and fairer for everyone.\nCome along and hear what Hertfordshire County Council candidates’ plans are to address the climate crisis and ensure a green and fair recovery from the pandemic and have a chance to ask your own questions.\nThe Hustings will be held on Monday 19th April\, opening at 1855\, for a 1900 start\, and finish at 2030.
